Es el peso de un volumen de vapor o gas puro (sin aire presente) comparado con el peso de un volumen igual de aire seco a la misma temperatura y presión.
- Una densidad de vapor menor que 1 (uno) indica que el vapor es más ligero que el aire y que tenderá a elevarse.
- Una densidad de vapor mayor a 1 (uno) indica que el vapor es más pesado que el aire y tenderá a descender hacia el suelo.
Con estas consideraciones en el caso de una fuga de un gas inflamable o considerado tóxico se debe tener en cuenta que si la densidad de vapor es menor a 1 (menos pesado que el aire) nuestro control sera ventilar el àrea, pero si la densidad de vapor es mayor a 1, se necesitará de medios fisicos para limpiar el área afectada.
Asi que ya sabes cuando uses un material peligroso, verifica esta propiedad en su hoja de seguridad
